Come for lunch, stay for the company

Kapija grada was recently renovated. In one place you’ll find a restaurant with home cooking, a big green garden with a children’s playground, covered outdoor seating and rooms to stay the night.

People come for breakfast, a family lunch or coffee in the shade. Children have room to play and adults have time to talk. School classes on a trip, friends at a celebration and overnight guests all gather here.

Why Kapija grada

Right at the entrance to Zrenjanin

Towns used to have gates. You entered through them, stopped in front of them, waited there for friends and rested after the road. We stand right at that spot: at the entrance to Zrenjanin, on the road into town.

Hence the name: Kapija grada means “City Gate”. If you’re heading into town, you can stop here for breakfast or lunch. If you’re leaving town, this is where a day outdoors begins, in the garden, with family and friends.

That’s why our gate is open from 7 am to 11 pm, for anyone who drops by.

Interior

Brick, wood and plenty of greenery

The restaurant is a glazed garden room with brick walls, green plant walls and wooden tables. You can see the garden through the glass, so parents at the table can keep an eye on the children at the playground.

A little play, a little shade, plenty of reasons to stay

Next to the restaurant is a big garden with lawns and trees. Children have swings, seesaws, a trampoline, a wooden tower and a large play structure with slides, plus room to run and play ball. Adults sit in the covered area or in the shade and watch from there.

Children play under their parents’ supervision. Some attractions, such as the inflatable slide, are set up only occasionally. If it matters to you, ask us before you come.

Kaštel Castle in Ečka, surrounded by its park

Kaštel Ečka

An English-style manor built between 1816 and 1820 for the noble Lazar family, on the left bank of the Begej. It has been restored, and the castle and its park are protected as a cultural monument.

Its guests over the years included Franz Ferdinand and Aleksandar Karađorđević, and the young Franz Liszt played at its opening.

Carska bara

A special nature reserve along the old course of the Begej, with marshes, woods and meadows. Around 239 bird species live here, making it one of the best-known birdwatching spots in Serbia.

You can tour the reserve by tourist boat or along the forest Health Trail to the lookout, and educational tours are organised for pupils. The season runs from April to November.
